I’m Benjamin Turner, a full-stack software engineer who creates solutions using open-source web technologies, accessible UI/UX design, and technical writing.
After receiving a BFA in Ceramics from the University of Oregon, I followed a roundabout path to a career in tech.
I transitioned to being a freelance web developer after several years working as a ceramic artist, art teacher, and Starbucks Barista.
My first websites were built on WordPress as a way to market my art. Eventually, I started working with Peaceful Media to create custom themes and plugins for various clients.
In 2017, I joined Flywheel and was part of the acquisition by WP Engine.
I’m still with WPE, and over that time I’ve held numerous roles, including:

- Team Lead
- Technical Community Manager
- Software Engineer for Local
How to work with me
I prefer open, public conversation over DMs and email. If something needs my attention, reach out somewhere visible — here or on GitHub — rather than email, which I’m slow to check.
I’m a problem solver by instinct. If you just want to vent, say so up front, otherwise I’ll start trying to fix whatever’s wrong.
I value observations backed by data and clear reasoning over “trust me, it’s better.” Show me why, and I’m all ears.
I protect focused work time and family time deliberately, so replies outside of that may take a little while. I’d rather be fully present in one thing than half-present in several.
